My friend and I both have Cable internet, we are far away from each other and want to play Starcraft with each other. We want a private game over tcp/ip but this game is old and will only let us play on a LAN via IPX or UDP. I want to know a way I can maybe VPN or some other solution to my friend so we can "simulate" a LAN that is required for this game.

My son and I use VPN to play half life and it works well. Its not hard to set up either. Open your help file up and type VPN in the search box. It will give you all you need to know to set up a client and server on you and your friends PC. You will also need to make sure you have the proper network protocols installed for your game. Once you have the VPN connection, start a game and have your partner find it on his using lan connection.
