It is either a stuffed water pump or thermostat but first undo the radiator hoses and flush the radiator with water as it could be blocked.

It could be your thermostat or your radiator. I had a similar problem and they did a pressure check on the radiator and that was not the problem so they changed the thermostat and that looked like it worked for a day or two but then lots of white smoke started coming out of the tailpipe which means a blown head gasket.

Could be 4 different things here (or possibly more) check them in this order (cheapestand easiest to most expensive)

1. replace Thermostat.
2. Check lower (bottom) radiator hose. Could be soft and under pressure could be squeezing itself shut.
3. Bad water pump. (tho not likely due to no overheating mentioned)
4. Temperature sensor.

This is kind of obscure, but I have seen it happen on more than one occasion.

Check the bottom radiator hose to make sure it is still firm. If it is spongy, it's possible that when running the engine at higher speed (which spins the pump faster) that the hose is collapsing.

Its a temp sending unit, they do bypass undesirable and act irratic at the same time as they do, I have a ninety one gt mustang and characteristic replaced mine two times. For my motor vehicle they were basically 8 money. Mine screwed into the intake manifold and basically had a million cord on it. extremely user-friendly. good success

Your coolant may be weak. When was the last time you flushed it? I know that if you have too much water in the mix it will make your antifreeze week and you will have that condition.

It could be the water pump fins.
