How about, "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" by Meat Loaf? He thinks he's got a good chance at getting the girl. Then he's coming in to home plate. . . then, 'STOP RIGHT THERE', it's a song that offers hope, only to be let down. Is that close to what you meant??
