Is it only the fact that the essay is worth 50 points, or does that title mean that there is something specific required???

It means the essay is worth 50 points. That's it. No, you don't need to make 50 "points" within the body of your essay.

I think this sounds ambiguous and you need to ask for clarification. Does your teacher want you to make 50 points in your essay or is the essay worth 50% of the grade?
