you know you saved me five points by asking this question... I have no clue but I think that my daughter is developing the real thing finally, as when she cries the area around her eyes is moist, she is six weeks. So that may be your answer?

They are supposed to develop them about a month old, if @ 6 weeks no tears yet they may be blocked- see a Dr.

I think my children were both about 5 weeks when they cried "real tears" If you baby is much older they could have clogged tear ducts, ask their doctor

Newborns start making tears when they are about two weeks old, but often it is just enough to keep their eyes moist and not enough to make real tears that you can see when they cry. Infants often don't develop real tears that you can see until they are much older and about seven or eight months old.
