Yes, it's true. When a man has a vasectomy, it's done on the outside under local anesthetic.

There are risks with any kind of medical procedure. But a vasectomy does heal alot faster and is *on average* less painful then getting tubes tied. A man can go back to work the very next day, while a woman might be off for a few days to a month or so.

It is MUCH safer for a man to have a vasectomy. It is done under local anesthesia in a doctor's office. He's fine the next day.
A woman having her tubes tied is MAJOR abdominal surgery. Not only will it take at least a week for you to be back on your feet, you have to have a hospital stay, AND the wound takes longer to heal. The vasectomy only requires a tiny incision, vs a huge one across your stomach for tubal ligation.
It is technically possible to produce children after either. Tubal ligation doesn't prevent you from releasing eggs, it prevents them from being fertilized and implanting in the uterus. When (and it has happened sometimes) they DO get fertilized, they implant outside the uterus, in an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is extremely dangerous. It might require ADDITIONAL abdominal surgery! But if a man releases sperm after a vasectomy, the woman just has a chance of dealing with a normal pregnancy. So if you DO get pregnant after one, it's better to get pregnant after a vasectomy vs a tubal ligation.
So I would opt for the man to have a vasectomy, because of the danger involved in the procedure itself, as well as the type of pregnancy that might have to be dealt with later.

I have actually heard the opposite as far as effectiveness... I know of a man who produced TWO kids after having a vasectomy.. and have heard many other stories basically saying the same thing. as far as safety, I am not sure which is the safer surgery.. although I know my sister was back to normal the next day after her surgery with minimal cramping. Just to be safe.. my hubby and I are both getting it done!

My OB told me that it is safer and less painful for a man to get a vasectomy because it is less invasive and the recovery time is a day or two. For a woman the recovery is weeks. Just so you know my OB is a man who has had the procedure done on himself.

it is much easier for the man, less bleeding, localized anesthetic, less down time and best of all a few dozen ejaculations later, the man can have a sample of semen sent in and will know for sure if his vasectomy took or not (something us girls can't do lol). So when people say their man was still fertile it was only because it didnt take, and they didnt have their semen checked like they were supposed to.
