corporate media reports, instead, referring to independent research and actual facts when forming opinions about current affairs, if it wasn't true, then why would the government say it, they wouldn't lie, at least, they never have before

Governments lie for the same motives persons do: both because the fact will cause them to look undesirable, or because they otherwise stand to attain from human beings believing the falsehood they're advertising. no longer in effortless words liberals, yet human beings of all political persuasions oppose authorities statements that are pretend because it could be rather asinine to settle for issues that you recognize to be pretend.

I believe it would be correct in saying that on both sides, extremist exist, and can't or won't see past their own mind set. Republican nor Democrat is worthy of casting the first stone. For some, facts are not entered into the equation of any debate, and for some facts are spun to fit. Of course the left believes they are correct, and vice versa for the right, you know my friend the Great Eagle needs both wings to fly. There is only one group I trust less than lawyers, and that's politicians.

Don't think it's opposed more like we know better then to by everything we are fed.
As for the corporate media reports just look at enron. OOPs you can't doesn't exist anymore.

Both the government and the media only provide that news which they wish us to believe, think we can stomach, or will confirm our delusions. In all cases its is selected and slanted toward whatever benefits them.
