“What do you do when you can’t sleep? Is it ok if I fall asleep over the phone? Night Color of skin shouldn’t matter in politics and love. Words and compassion are a better way even if it’s slower than a bullet. You never know who you are going to meet.”

You cant force your family to accept your views, all you can do is voice and defend, or keep your opinion to yourself. Its a personal decision.I choose to voice mine and I pay the price by not being included at some family events. I am happy with who I am and not willing to pretend im something im not just so they will " love me". Good luck this is the tough part. I have sent my family the song family by dolly parton, It has helped me keep from wanting to deny there shallow stupidity is related to me .

First you must "understand" what they are saying. Listen and understand. This doesn't mean agree. Then, don't argue your point or your view just to be heard. If they want to know your view - they will ask. Speak it slowly and back up your view with why you believe it.

Families don't all agree. Very few actually do. They just learn to listen and "understand" the differences in each other.

Some of us are good at "wanting to argue" our points...just to be heard. These are the times everyone dislikes.

Listen to your family and understand. Eventually, they will listen to you - and understand. If not asked...don't offer. Dont' aruge just for the sake of arguing. You're not right and they're not right. You're both right - for your own lives. Enjoy and embrace the differences. It would be a very boring world if we all agreed about everything.

One more thing...be willing to change your mind or your belief if you learn another way might be better. Its a good person that is willing to change...but only if its what you want.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ACCEPTANCE OR APPROVAL? I SPENT 40 YEARS OF MY LIFE TRYING TO GET MY FATHERS APPROVAL. I FINALLY REALIZED THAT I DIDN'T NEED HIS APPROVAL, IT WAS MY LIFE TO LIVE AS I WANTED. WHAT I WAS REALLY LOOKING FOR WAS ACCEPTANCE, WHICH I HAD ALL ALONG. HE DID LOVE ME. I FLEW TO FLORIDA TO BE WITH HIM FOR FATHER'S DAY. THERE WERE LOTS OF HUGS & KISSES & EVEN MORE TEARS. I SAW HIM AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER AT HIS FUNERAL. DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
