I think that for the most part, we make our own luck. True, sometimes we are faced with situations that are beyond our control, but it is how we deal with those situations that determine our success. People who are born into wealth and power are not always successful because of bad choices that they make ... and people who are born into less fortunate situations are sometimes able to work their way out of them. We are in control of our destiny!

Sometimes one, sometimes the other, sometimes (usually) both, but sometimes neither. Okay, not much of an answer, I know. Let me explain what I mean.

Let's face it- being born the Sultan uf Brunai didn't take any particular training or hard work. The guy's lucky. That's it. You can say that luck is imaginary all you want, but the Sultan over there is, if anything, lucky.

Now sometimes people prepare themselves well to capitalize on opportunity, and then achieve great things when that opportunity comes around seemingly by chance. The truth is that small opportunities are always around us, and larger opportunities also occasionally appear. To a degree, it's a matter of 'right place, right time'- but preparation and attitude also make up a large part of the success of most of these 'lucky' people.

So while it seems to be impossible to be successful without in some way being able to count the blessings of "good fortune", there are some who defy the axiom another way. There are the very elderly who win the lottery and die immediately thereafter. There are compulsive gamblers who score a big win on the craps tables only to blow it all (and then some) at the sports book the next day. There are people who are born into affluence and spend their idle time and money on the heroin which eventually, inevitably, destroys their lives. Being lucky, we can see from these examples, is not the only key to being successful.

Successful people are not lucky... luck is a superstition.

Successful people understand the laws and rules of life and living and follow specific patterns and behaviors. They realize mindsets and are usually healthy and maintain their bodies and minds and gear themselves toward that success...

The most successful usually know that everything is basically bull crap, and have still become very good at playing the games needed to function, It is called life. It is hard for some, because they can't get out of their own heads or thoughts long enough to see anything through to a stable conclusion.

Successful people are not indecisive and usually keep their drama to a minimum... where as non successful types tend to trade their drama, for their success.

This is a question related to the belief or non belief in freewill. A person who runs into a hollywood producer by chance in a gas station is lucky in the sense that they crossed paths. Their hard work and character moving forward is a result of effort and drive, but are they born with this drive and effort? If the same person without this drive and effort character traits ran into the same hollywood producer, would he/she become successful? Does each respective person have Freewill? Yes they are lucky to have crossed paths with the hollywood prodcuer, but what happens next is their effort and drive. But is this effort and drive something that they luckily were born with or taught over the years from their environment? Is the person not lucky enough to have the effort and drive traits instilled into them, doomed for failure regardless? Freewill? hmmmm...

Success is not usually the result of luck. It is usually the result of hard work and good planning. Still, the absence of bad luck may help some. A little apparent good luck can also help.

There are people who do seem to keep running into good luck, but not all of those people are successful.

Successful people may not have gotten to where they are with luck; likewise, lucky people are not necessarily successful. Neither.

There are many people who engineered their way up the corporate ladder via skill and tact. Others got there by being in the right place at the right time. And of course this is a flexible concept.
