if ur hard drive have some propb. and u want to install new os then u boot ur system to a xp bootable CD and delete all partition and again create new partition then format (u never select quick format ) then u can Terry........
other option is
Insert your XP installation disk and reboot your machine.
When prompted to boot from CD, choose "yes" (if you're not prompted, you may need to pop into the BIOS and tweak the boot device order).
One of the steps in the installation asks you whether you want to re-format your hard drive.
By the way, what sort of trouble are you having? If it's a hardware problem then reinstallation is unlikely to help. Could you please provide more details just in case I can help you avoid a costly mistake?

You have to boot to the XP CD-Rom Drive, with your original CD there.
You will then be asked if you wish to re-install (Fix) XP, keeping your applications and data, install a new copy of the OS, thus losing your programs, but keeping your data, or finally, formatting and reinstalling your entire hard drive.
If you don't have the original CD, you are out of luck!
