Shaft:

> A long hollow tunnel, vertical or horizontal which generally serves as a passage way for persons or material.

> A bar or rod which serves as a transmission device for energy and motion such as a drive shaft or axel shaft.

> The name of a black-sploitation movie made in the 70's staring Richard Roundtree

> A uncomfortable feeling produced by the insertion of one of the above into an orifice in such a manner as to produce a somewhat rigid and straightened posture. In such cases the recipient is said to have 'got the shaft'.

Any of those fit your question??

The shaft runs from the engine to the propeller. It transfers the energy to make the boat move.

We had to have ours replaced. The coupler broke and rounded out the spleen gear.

Please restate the questions to a Model and what you really want to know....

What is Shaft ?
Your boat might sink if you don't tighten it up...
It might slip if you don't grease it...
You might just be getting The Shaft if your buying a boat and don't know what it is for on that boat your looking at....

Good Luck.....
