It's WAAAAYYYYY too early for baby food and it's completely normal for her to wake up you 4+ times a night, and you to be tired all day...WELCOME TO MOTHERHOOD!!!! You should try to get her on a schedule, but she's still so young that it'll be hard and take time. Keep her up, within reason during the day, but she needs a few long naps. She's not going to sleep through the night most likely for several weeks. Tough it out mom and try to catch a nap during the day while she's sleeping. Good luck!!!

You don't say if yu are breast feeding LOL!!! If so don't stop and DON'T give anything but breast milk I am a Registered Midwife and advise many mothers... Wake baby up every 2 hours during the day and feed the child if she does not settle. Give exclusive breast to baby for 6 months to prevent allergic reactions of any sort at aq later stage.
Sleep during the day when baby sleeps during 2 of her rest times ie when she sleeps this will help yu and drink plenty of water and eat healthily, you need the foods more now than ever before as it is for yourself and baby.
If you don't mind an ill child then don't listen to me and carry on!!! This is what plenty of Moms do ie not listen and are sorry afterwards when their children have problems LOL!!!

Are you nursing her? If so, tuck her in bed with you, and when she cries, latch her on and then both of you can go back to sleep. If she stays awake while nursing, at least you can dose.

Keep the lights off at night, and keep it quiet (no TV). When she has a dirty diaper, change it quickly, with a low light or flashlight. You want to teach her that dark and quiet means "night time" and light means day time.

Try the swing - she may relax in the swing and be able to sleep some at night, while she is adjusting to day and night.

You need to sleep when baby sleeps - especially taking naps during the day, when she's sleeping. Don't try to keep her up. At 1 week of age, she should be sleeping approximately 16 1/2 hours a day, 8 of those hours being asleep during the day, and 8 1/2 of those hourse being asleep at night. http://welcomeaddition.com/baby.aspx

You will be awakened approximately every 2 hours with a nursing baby because she needs to eat that frequently. So that would be waking up 4 times a night (as you said is happening) because your daughter is hungry. Just remember that your daughter needs you to feed her and cuddle her at night, and in order for you to be able to do this, you must sleep during the day when she sleeps, especially while you are still bleeding and healing. Eat healthy foods - yogurt, nuts, raisins, protein (i.e. meat), vegetables, fruit, and reduce the carbs and sugar. Lots of water, too.

This has helped with all 5 of our babies. It sounds like your daughter is doing great - please don't give her any baby food for a few months. It will not be good for her digestion. Also, don't try to keep your daughter up during the day. She needs to sleep many hours each day.

Giving your baby any kind of food other than breastmilk or formula is not good for them before they are 3 months. I asked my health nurse when my baby was younger. She told me that it can cause stomach aches, constipation, which can cause damage to the intestines and bowels. In turn, I was at one point a first time mother and listened to people who told me to give my baby cereal to help her sleep through the night....it's not true, it does not work and I don't recommend it because you will more than likely be up all night dealing with a baby who won't stop crying because she has one hell of a stomach ache. Don't do it, you're just going to have to deal with the baby waking up, that's what they do....also the part about keeping her up, babies NEED sleep...it's a vital part of their growth, however, the key is getting them to be awake at the right times...and asleep at the right times. Figure out what works for you and try a routine....I know it's hard but babies are so precious that they are well worth it!

Keeping a baby awake when she's tired is a horrible thing to do. She needs her sleep!!! Baby food is not for newborns you shouldn't start her on it until at least 4 months. The best thing for both of you is to get on a regular schedule for feedings and naps.

Solids are considered off-limits until around 6 months, not only because introducing them earlier might predispose a child to allergies, but also because the baby is not physically ready to eat solid foods. Four times a night is pretty much what a newborn will do, but one thing you might do to alleviate your fatigue is try to nap during the day when she does. Also, the cleaning and cooking, if you're doing that, can be someone else's job. In fact, if you can do it, make your ONLY job right now the baby.

No it is NOT good to keep baby up all day. newborns are not like adults! They NEED to sleep A LOT (during the day and the night) because they're growing... rapidly! And they wake up every 2-3 hours (and sometimes more!) because they need to DRINK MILK often... because their little tummies digest food very quickly.
