Gray key is the SENTRY key with the chip in it, the black keys are your normal keys.

If you have no keys to the vehicle, the dealer must program new keys. Dealers around here charge about $35 or so (a half-hour flat-rate) some may charge more, but shop around to your local Dodge, Chrysler, or JEEP dealers to see which might charge the least. The charge should be the same whether you program 1 key, or 6 keys, so this is the time to buy some extras.

Also, they will have to have the vehicle there, so it will have to be towed in (some may send a tech out, most don't -- but doesn't hurt to ask).

If you think the keys might be locked in the vehicle, you can have a standard key cut for it to get into the vehicle, but it will not start and run with it for longer than 10 seconds (and will lock out all keys for about an hour after 2 or 3 attempts).

THE GRAY HEADED KEY IS A SENTRY KEY. IT REQUIRES THAT THE CAR BE AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR PROGRAMMING. IF IT WAS A BLACKHEADED KEY THE KEYCODE IS ON THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENT FOR THE CAR.
M###. IF NOT THE DEALER CAN PROVIDE YOU THE CODE, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PROOF OF OWNERSHIP AND A PICTURE ID.. GOOD LUCK

No. If the original key is chipped, you have to get the dealer to re-program the new one for you. Easy way to tell if you have a 'chipped' key - if the key has black plastic on top -chipped key and about 100 bucks to get it reprogrammed. Grey plastic on top - $3.49 at AutoZone to get a new one cut.

BUT- if you are getting a key cut from the key code or VIN - you're stuck with Chrysler regardless of the type of key.
