We will be able to accept a black president when a question like this is no longer necessary.

When we think of a person and not their color. Of their qualifications and not their sexual orientation. Of their voting history and not their religious beliefs.

I would vote for black man or woman for that matter if I truly believed they had the whole of the country's well being as their goal. The problem with our political system as is is that their opinions are bought from the highest bidders. I can't speak for everyone and I know that racism is still a factor in politics as well but I think that the government does its fair share of hate mongering to keep the people separated because if we actually were united the government would lose power and the people would gain.

You obviously haven't been around here a while. This question gets asked practically every day. More often it appears in the "Elections" section.

Yes, this country can accept a black President. It can accept any member of any race. That's a rule in our Constitution and we've been obeying it for a quite a while.

{edit} Just one minute after I posted the above answer I had been awarded additional points for this "best answer."

I think americans would accept it right now. The reason there hasn't been a black president isn't because of non acceptance of blacks, it's because there haven't been any good black candidates, just buffoons like Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson.

For some time now, we have had no problem with a black person running. The problem it has been Al Sharpton. When a black person is the best candidate, then I hope he or she gets elected. But my vote surely won't be based on race. It will be based on shared values.

The US can, but it's people are too scared too. There are too many people that think only a white man would or could be president. So the US can, but there are too many small minds that vote that wouldn't let that happen.
