i think the captian should select the team but the best opinoin is that the spectator should select the team.

As a former member of a selection panel I must point out just a few things.
England Ashes Squad was selected by a panel.
The team which was put out was the choice of the Captain and Coach. At Grass roots level I find that selection by a panel of the sides Captains and one or two non players tends to make for the most balanced team. It would therefore be my suggestion that this is the same in County and International Cricket.

The question is who select the team, but the performance of the players selected. While captain should be a role to play in selection of team, the selection process should not be entirely at the discretion of the captain.

He does have a big say in it already, it is between the head coach, the captain and about 3 selectors for the squad and then mainly the coach and captain for who plays out of the squad.
