It does mean that she is progressing towards labor, but it can still take days, weeks....however long the baby feels like waiting. I know that it doesn't give you a definite answer but as we all know from having once been there, it happens when it happens and nothing seems to give us accurate clues as to when. The best of luck to all of you!

No. She can be 30% effaced a couple weeks before delivery. Things are not really moving until she is at least 70% effaced and beginning to dialate more than 4 cm.

Maybe, maybe not. I was 70% effaced for a week before we scheduled an induction for my 10 day overdue baby.
I think it's pretty common to start effacing and even dialating a few days or even weeks before labor begins.

I believe that would be similar to being dialated to a (3)...A ten (10) is considered fully dialated and ready to deliver. Some doctors recommend that you not arrive at the hospital until you are dialated to a 5 or 6. At this point the contractions are fairly consistant and the pain is noticably increased.

If she isn't due till February then 30% effaced isn't a good thing.

it means that the lining to her uterus is 30 % thinned. It needs to thin out 100%. You can be thinned out up go 75% for weeks. She is close. It can be within the next hour or it could take weeks. I know this doesn't help, but it's the fact lol. I've had 4 kids and stayed at 25% for 2 weeks with all of them.

It means her cervix has 70% more to efface. That happens first, then the cervix starts to dilate. It might be soon but it could be several days too. If it is her first baby it could be a while.

It could be hours or weeks... every woman is different. I was 4 cent. dilated for 2 weeks before I was induced.
