the divorce rate is now 1.1 in every 2 marriages end in divorce. That is over half. Does anyone really think the homosexuals can do any worse? I always hear how it's a sacred act between a man and a woman and God and how the vows are so sacred and mean so much yet those same people are on marriage number two or three or more. I don't get it. Anyway, does anyone else see the irony here. Living in the Bible Belt myself i'm sure this will light a fire under alot of people. I doubt I will get any good answers on here.

Why do other people care about my sexual preference? Please think about that for a minute. Why do you care who I want to have sex with? Why do you care what I do with my private parts behind closed doors? I don't care if you want to have sex with sheep. Why? It's not my business!! Sexual preference isn't important. As long as it's between 2 consenting adults & no one is being harmed....who cares? I don't even think marriage should be an issue. Anyone who wants to get married & is aware of what a marriage commitment means, should be able to go right ahead! No one else's business!

And may I just add...for all the men giving thumbs down...you should put away your lesbian porn before you judge. Don't you think?

Well I desire I get the quality reply seeing as despite the fact that I've been browsing this limitation day-to-day for the beyond 7-eight years, and preserve to although homosexual marriage has been authorized in my nation of Canada for the beyond four years nationally. Gay marriage is this sort of significant deal, to... whom? the homosexual neighborhood. This is when you consider that it is with no trouble a question of human rights...why? Because marriage used to intend estate importance, then it was once outlined through the church, so it has long gone by way of a number of transitions. And, apart from that, with out the choice for marriage, homosexual and lesbian couples suppose remoted and excluded. That's when you consider that society is aware what it approach to be married - the reception, the marriage ceremony, the cake, and many others. Most folks do not know what a "Civil Union" or "Domestic Partnership" is, nor do they understand how to introduce their accomplice to anybody through titles like that. A marriage license comes from the state and as a result will have to be to be had to every body. Religion has not anything to do with it - if it did, their might be a litmus scan for atheists, agnostics, and many others. It has same value in each and every nation although such a lot, adding the US, have over a million,000 rights which are afforded to married couples (federally) which are denied to homosexual and lesbian couples. So, it is not simply the social element, nevertheless it has authorized connotations as good. It's approximately love, happiness, and inspiring steady households.

You probably won't get much besides bible-based answers, sadly. That's what many Americans turn to when they don't know what to say.
It doesn't make any sense to me. As a heterosexual (most of the time...wink,wink) I could find myself a guy on the street, and get married to him within an hour. A gay couple who's built a relationship for years doesn't have that same right. Why? Because ye olde bible says it's wrong, or so I'm told. Yet, marriage is a legal ceremony, not a religious one. So...
I just don't understand what's so scary or so wrong about a man loving a man or a woman loving a woman. Oh no! All I can say is that Canada is looking better and better!

Great question. Now, to all the idiots that are going on about how God feels about homosexuality, how the hell do you know? Are you God? I don't think so. Or have you had a conversation with Him lately? Obviously not, because if you had, God would've told you He loves all of his children and doesn't judge any of them. The beliefs in this country are changing and you are just a bunch of backward sticks in the mud.

The bible was not written by God. It was written by a bunch of random dudes. By the way, the same book (Leviticus) that said homosexuality was wrong, said that if a woman was raped outside her city walls, it doesn't count as rape--now that doesn't sound like a credible source to me. But whatever, I didn't come here to talk religion.

I'm straight, but I believe in gay marriage 100%. It is ridiculous that a country will recognize a 24 hour union between Britney Spears and some random dude as a legal marriage, but won't allow gay couples that have been together for years and years to be married. If that's not ****** up, I don't know what is. Gay people should totally be allowed to get married--why shouldn't they allowed to be as miserable as the rest of us :)

I totally see your point. I also live in the bible belt and find it so full of hypocrisy that it makes me laugh. My opinion is that homosexuals contribute to society in many positive ways. They tend to be professionals making good money. They generally are more empathetic to others, making them very caring people. Many large corporations already support same sex unions on paper in ways like allowing "domestic partners" as dependants for insurance.
My thought is that they should have the right to be "just as miserable as the rest of us" There's no point in trying to treat them, or anyone else for that matter, like second class citizens.
My ex girlfriend's brother is gay, he and his "significant other" were together before she and I hooked up, and are still together today. They are foster parents in another state than where I live, and doing a phenomenal job of it.

first off, let me say i really don't feel strong either way on the issue, but one of the arguments is as follows.

traditionally, in olden times, marriage was about procreation as much if not more than it was about love. that is why, when a woman got pregnant, the male would "do the right and honorable thing" and marry her. in order to procreate, the natural way, the way God intended, you need a man and a woman. if you allow men and women to marry the same sex they are entering into an un-holy union that is not capable of natural procreation, which is sinful. it really has nothing to do with the divorce rate or number of times a person marries. but I am sure this isn't the only argument.

No, you're right. Homosexual marriage is not going to do anything to heterosexual marriage. Maybe the real fear here is that homosexual marriages will have a lower divorce rate! Wouldn't that be embarassing?

Really, the God talk is to win votes in politics. These issues like gay marriage, abortion ect. shouldn't be debated anymore, but there is a large number of stupid Americans that will vote Republican for no other reason except for their stance on homosexual marriage or abortion. It's a way to ignore the real issues and attract attention.

1 Corinthians 6:9

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Because Gay marriage is WRONG, homosexuality is WRONG!!!

GOD created Marriage and sex, he created marriage to be between a man and a woman, he created sex to be between a husband and wife, meaning a man and woman. That's what the big deal is. The reason that the divorce rate is so high in this country is because of the me first attitude in our society, because if we don't get what we want in one marriage, we can move on to another where we think we will get what we want.

And about homosexuality, GOD hates it, he doesn't have the person, but he hates the sin. And it makes me VERY HAPPY to see states pass Amendments to their state constitutions defining marriage as between a man and a woman. Because homosexual marriage is destroying traditional family values along with people getting divorced so easily, people don't want to try and work out problems in their marriages anymore, if problems come up, they run from them rather than face them. That's why the divorce rate is so dang high these days.

I do not like that it is called marriage for the gays, only because of tradition of getting married has always been for a man & lady. If they were to call it something else, I think it would be a "more power to em" sort of thing.

You are right. The ability for it to be done in churches isn't necessarily correct considering it goes against their beiliefs but for it to be done at city hall or wherever a local town government performs marriages is fine. I don't like the idea of mixing the beliefs of church and state together. Sort of like our money and our pledge of alligience.
