An old saying says...
Live in CA...But leave before you get to soft...
Live in NY... But leave before you get to hard...
Then move to Colorado and live happy.

Personally, I would move to LA, but that's a biased answer since I live in Southern California.
I've heard that New York is one of the most expensive places to live in the country. Of course, I wouldn't know if that's true or not.
The best thing I can say is to do a little research. Then, make a list of pros and cons from each city. That way, you can narrow down what really matters and decide from there.
Good Luck.

I would think it would be easier to live and get around N.Y. for a single woman. There are also so many choices of things to do and types of people to hang around with. The place is one big learning experience. You can create your own life and attract a circle of friends who are into what you're into if you're outgoing enough.
However, everyone and everything in L.A. all seem the same to me, and many of the people seem naive and shallow. You can get lost in the L.A. suburbs and be trapped in an apartment, far from every place you want to go to unless you have a car. I'm from Chicago and have spent a lot of time in both cities, which are both expensive, but L.A. may be more expensive because of all the driving. Get a roommate or two.

I would definately pick LA...my best friend used to live there and she was telling me how nice everything is there. New York is dirtier than LA and even though the cost of living is higher, you also get paid more for what you do. The best bet would be either to be a valet or a waitress b/c they make BANK on those tips! also it's cold there in the winter and you can go to the beach in the summer, it wouldn't be nearly the same in smoggy New York...nothing against New York though it would be so much fun to live in such a fast-paced, large city, I'm from Florida though so I can't get too far away from the sun! Also, i hear the party scene in LA is SICK!!

They both stink big time.
LA is more spread out, NYC more concentrated. LA has smog, NYC is just gritty and dirty. You need a car in LA, you can't afford to keep a car in NYC (but they have subways).
I think NYC is more expensive. LA has better weather.
IMO, LA is more about cliques and snobby, NYC is more just ignoring people or FU.
I don't like either place, but I'd have to go with LA. I don't know about NYC, but most people new to LA move away after two or three years.

L.A. would definately cost more and have a bigger party life. For a lower cost would be New York, but with less party, just more site seeing.
