It is because there are no "dramatic" ideas that make any sense.

What are you gonna do differently?

- Leave, and let the place (and 1/3 of the world's oil) fall into international religious war?

- Bring in 100,000 new troops from some magical source (do we have 100,000 combat troops that we can use?) to patrol every street corner?

- Drop a few nukes until the trouble spots are glass parking lots?

If Kerry would've been elected, we'd be complaining about Iraq. IF Al Gore would've been elected, we'd be dealing with Iraq even if Gore wouldn't have invaded. If Hillary, or even Kerry, was elected tomorrow, we'd still have troops in Iraq doing much the same things.

No, the cards that are dealt are very limited right now, and the mistakes that were made early in the occupation have pretty much sealed our current fate.

BTW, mistakes = firing the Baath party government workers, disbanding the Iraqi army.

We can't just up and leave because the country is already in so much chaos and leaving would be giving in to the opposing forces and their government could collapse. We see the insurgents that do not want us there and they are the ones who make the news, but there are Iraqis.. the ones that want peace in their country that do want us there and need our help to overcome the violence.
