Wet sanding is as it sounds, wet sanding. You must purchase wet or dry emery paper to do it. Plain old sand paper will fall apart when wet. About 380 grit is good for starters to remove scratches. You keep the sanding area as wet as possible while sanding.Use a bucket of water to dip the emery cloth in or a small trickle from a hose.I have never heard of using 800 grit. That would be so fine it would clog immediately and not sand anything. Go to paint section in store and look at different emery papers and you will see the difference in the grit.

wet sandin is just another way of sanding a car during the body work and paint stages. Wet paper can range form 400 grit to 2500 grit. It is used to prep the car for paint and the finer grits for sanding after paint in prep for buffing. It creates a nice smooth finish quickly and can quickly remove unwanted areas of old paint ,primer or just to open up the clear coat for buffing. Messy but effective.

Get 800 grit sanding paper (that's the smoothness of the paper) and wet it before you start sanding. Use plain water, no soaps.

It's when you're finishing a painted or primed surface, either getting it ready to be painted again or buffed and polished. You take 'wet or dry' paper and soak it in water, keeping the surface wet as you sand to lessen the friction and control dust.
