There hasn't been enough studies done into whether its safe or not. So its suggested you dint drink. This Christmas I will be 32 weeks and I was thinking that maybe I may have a small glass of wine with dinner. This is a very special Christmas for our family, I really want to celebrate how lucky we are. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

You know...I'm not sure. I've heard conflicting reports. I've heard it's fine to have one glass of wine (as often as everyday) and that drinking in excess is the problem. I've also heard that ANY alcohol during pg is bad. The best person to ask would be your dr, and follow his advice, even if it's not what you want to hear. And if the answer is no, have your husband standing there by your side at delievery with a bottle of wine in his hand, so you can have a big swig as soon as baby is born...that's my plan, but with a margarita, instead of wine! ;) Congrats on the new baby!!!

This is a decision you have to make on your own because no one knows how much alcohol is safe during pregnancy, that's why it is said to never drink. I have read that on a special occasion 1 glass of wine with a meal should be fine as long as it's not everyday. This is all oppinions though for no one knows if it is safe or not. BEst of luck! Do what feels right to you but dont go and drink the whole bottle!

this is an extremely controversial subject about pregnant
every person has its own myths and facts about pregnancy.. there is no proven fact that ONE glass has an effect on your unborn baby...
Drinking large quantities of alcohol in pregnancy will cause a permanent mental incapacitation. Low IQ, small heads and can cause fetal alcohol syndrome and sometimes worse .but that's in large amounts
but its also said One glass of red wine is OK and has many antioxidants that are good for the mother and the alcohol content is not enough to harm the fetus... my aunt is a doctor and works in the l&d she herself even said a glass or two a month isnt going to hurt the baby as long as its
No regular drinking (i.e. every single day).
No binge drinking (i.e. having quite a few drinks in one session).
Not hard liquor; stick to wine or beer.

even though i chosse not to drink maily becuase i never cared to in the first place.......i think it just depends on how or if you feel guilty about it you might be suprised if you went ahead and had one maybe your mind will tell you its not worth it and you can get it out of your system. good luck but really its competely your decision

Well, this is one of those things you have to decide for yourself. Is the risk really really really worth that one glass of wine?? Most care providers and pregnancy books will say, sure go ahead, one glass of wine, especially this late in the pregnancy, really isn't going to do any harm. But you've made it this far, and alcohol of any sort is one of the big major things you're supposed to avoid during pregnancy. When your baby is born and is a fully functional seperate being of its own, then you can abibe to your heart's content (as long as you're not driving or breastfeeding), but for now, while your baby doesn't really have a choice in the matter, you need to be the one making the best decision for BOTH of you.

Sheesh, whatta pile of ill-informed, "I believe every bit of garbage I'm told," paranoid, puritannical answers.

With a few good ones squeezed in, though. Anyway.

Go for it.

"The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recently conducted a large study including 400,000 American women, all of whom had consumed alcohol during pregnancy. Not a single case of fetal alcohol syndrome occurred and no adverse effects on children were found when consumption was under 8.5 drinks per week."
"A study of pregnancies in eight European countries found that consuming no more than one drink per day did not appear to have any effect on fetal growth. A follow-up of children at 18 months of age found that those from women who drank during pregnancy, even two drinks per day, scored higher in several areas of development."

from http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/FetalAlcoholSyndrome.html

"Dr. Michael Samuels of New York City's Doctor's Hospital says that the data has been "turned around for the purpose of frightening women"..."

(which apparently worked a bit too well)

"Some studies go as far as to indicate that light to moderate drinking may actually improve the chance of successful pregnancies..."

"... (the) conclusion is that "the only risk free pregnancy is one that is meant less to benefit the baby than to imprison the mother in anxiety and self-reproach". "

You know the saying better safe than sorry...well that applies here. See with my mom they told her drinking red whine was good for her while pregnant with my oldest brother. They even told my sister it was ok to enjoy one drink as long as you don't drink more than 2. But the truth of it is they don't know if its 1 or a million drinks that causes fetal alcohol syndrome. Think of you baby...besides you don't have that long to wait.

There has been research done by doctors. Most of them recommend that a pregnant woman not drink ANY alcohol at all during any stage of pregnancy as they do not know the safe amount of alcohol a pregnant woman should drink. Dont risk it - its not worth it. Im 39wks pregnant with no signs of labour close at hand. Why take the risk? Its not worth it.

It's not any safer to have a glass of wine now than it was before. It doesn't matter what stage of pregnancy you are in, it's not ok. Hang on for a little while longer. It will all be over soon.

No. Any amount of alcohol during pregnancy can result in FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome). Alcohol can inhibit healthy growth. Don't risk it. Whatever you take into your body, you are also putting into your unborn child's body. Would you put alcohol in a bottle and feed it to your child after it's born?
