It really depends on the kid. Ages are not always a good thing to go on. Some 10 year olds are more mature than some 15 year olds. So it's really a matter of maturity. You can set up your computer so you can see where your kid has been - and you should. I'd continue to do that right through high school. There are so many sites out there with inappropriate things on them.
Also it's a good idea to keep the computer in an open area. No working on the computer in their bedroom. That's a big no no. Even if you trust your child - their are wackos out in cyberspace who you cannot trust.

I would only keep a hardware history storage that you can access to see what sites your kids have been on. Other then that I don't think they need supervision unless they are 11 and under.
If you have cable internet then you can use a router with the ability to keep internet history and is password protected.
If you have DSL you can do the same.
If you have Dialup then I really don't know.
Don't relay on the Interents expolers history because it can be deleted.
You can also look into a macintosh witch have tons of Perental Security controls like website blocking and What apps are your kids allowed to open.

No and they cant be there all the time ,Parents should educate their children to be responsible and give them interest beyond porn ,internet in the hands of a smart kid is a power full educational tool.
and you cant hide the world from them forever .-
In Holland for example are porn shops all over the place ,any kid can see it or buy it .
but after the first curiosity has passed few children are even interested ,they get bored with it ,much more interesting stuff around for an inquisitive mind.
teach your kids to enjoy the valuable things in life ,and responsibility ,than your computor will be safe in their hands ,unless you are a bad teacher.
and whats with the 14 year deadline ,that will upset a lot of smart 11year olds

I think any kid that is not in high school should be supervised or there should be ground rules for what your kids can do and can't do on the computer.
The extreme is putting a parental control software, so they can't view certain sites.
When you get to high school, they are smart enough to circumvent anything. But, if you teach them early about do's and don'ts on the internet, hopefully that will carry when they are in high school. For example, never give your phone number and address to anyone on the internet. Never meet anyone in person.
My reasons are for pedophiles, sexual predators, phishing, scams, criminals. Even adults get scammed. Young kids are naive and ignorant. They are way too trusting and careless.

i think kids should be supervsed on the computer. with all the predators, online bullying etc., parents really need to know what their child is doing. the computer should remain in a family room, not in bedrooms, and parents should learn all they can about the internet. getting programs that have parental control can also very helpful. as parents, we are supposed to protect our children from the dangers of the world, the internet is just as dangerous as walking through a bad neighborhood late at night.

My dad grow to be born in Italy and my family members is amazingly eu, so starting to be up the youngsters have been allowed sips of alcohol and as quickly as we've been 12 or so we've been allowed a tumbler of wine on particular activities, like weddings and yuletide. via fact I found out to drink alcohol responsibly at a youthful age, I never had the urge to binge drink in college, I knew my limits and that i favored alcohol greater for style than as something to get me tousled. babies in Europe are allowed to have wine and beer whilst they are young babies and you do no longer see as plenty irresponsible habit as you do with human beings. in actuality, as quickly as I studied in another country in Spain, the college cafeteria had wine and beer on faucet! often the teachers drank it yet you probably did no longer see scholars stumbling into classification all under the effect of alcohol. If I ever grow to be a be certain, I plan on allowing my babies to drink on particular activities whilst they are youthful to enable them to renowned that alcohol, whilst used responsibly, isn't any huge deal.

No, because they might look at inappropriate images, videos, or websites. They also might download a virus that can cause problems to the computer and they can also chat with strangers and give out their personal information.
