Yes it can. There is a place on the foot that can cause contractions. There is also a pressure point between your neck and shoulders that can cause labor if you push on it too much. My friend is a massage therapist. I had her show me so I would know what not to do early in pregnancy and what to do at the end when I'm tired of waiting for labor to start. I wouldn't be too afraid of foot or shoulder /neck rubs from your husband though. You have to push on it a bit to get things started. Just have him avoid the top of your feet around your ankles and don't have him push and hold down on pressure points in your neck/shoulder area for extended periods of time. You might be able to find a massage therapy book at your library to research a little better or ask a local massage therapist for input. Good Luck!

I'd try finding a good site about this. I know that there are reflexes in the feet that relate to those areas. I'd be careful just in case. I know that over the summer, my friend got a massage and it was a special "pregnancy massage" since there are things the massage therapist cannot do while the woman is pregnant. Ask around or find a good site. Good luck!

I am a certified massage therapist I am also certified in prenatal massage. Yes it is true that you can put a woman into early labor by massaging the feet. However this can only happen if your husband has the wrong intentions, so if your husband has the right intentions to just help you relax and remove some of the tension from your feet enjoy!

Actually, yes it can. I didn't believe this until I had a prenatal massage done as a birthday gift and the massage therapist, who specialized in pregnancy massage, told me that there are millions of nerves in your feet that are connected to all different parts of your body and if you over stimulate the nerves taht are connected to your uterus you can cause contractions to occur which can then develop into full blown labor.

I have heard that getting pedicures, which involve a foot massage, can cause early labor. However, that could be a tale so I would definitely check with your doctor.

No. I have never heard of this. I cant see why anyone can think this. Afterall isnt a foot massage helping you relax therefore making you less stressed which is good thing for the baby.

I don't see how that could cause you to have an early labor. Its your feet not your stomach.
