Since when do phones in phone booths ring? I've never heard of that, except maybe in the movies.

No, but only because of the movie "Phone Booth" with Colin Farrell. Before I would have thought nothing about answering a phone, I would have done it without even thinking about it. But now, after seeing that movie, I have second thoughts. Dumb, yes I know, but hey it could happen. haha.

The person they were trying to reach might be near to the booth, but had to walk out of earshot for some reason. I would answer, ask who they wanted to talk to, tell them that they were calling a payphone. If they know that, I would yell out for (name of person here), and if no one came up to get the phone, I would tell them "sorry, no one is coming to the phone.".

no, because no one would be calling a phone booth to talk to me, and I would run from it if it was in a bad part of town!

Yes, and actually I have. One night I was walking down Spring Street in Manhattan and a payphone rang. I answered it and it was some stoned kid who had taken down the number so he could call and see if anyone would bother to answer.
