That depends on the spirit in which it was given. If one enjoys the taste of fruitcake, then by all means give it. http://www.rockridgemarkethall.com/newsletter/hol2005/fruitcake.html Or if it was given to someone who had just gotten engaged (or was hoping to be) with a brief history within a card, it could be found humorous. As it was the custom back in the late 1800s in England for unmarried wedding guests to put a slice of the cake, traditionally a dark fruitcake, under their pillow at night so they will dream of the person they will marry. http://whatscookingamerica.net/History/Cakes/Fruitcake.htm

However, in the US the fruitcake has become, amongst some, one of the most ridiculed desserts and the butt of many jokes centered on its heaviness and long shelf life. Many would take offense to such a gift, just read some of the links below:

I think a lot of people find fruitcake an insult to receive, but my Mom made it one year from scratch and everyone LOVED it. I would say go with your gut instinct. I know a lot of people love fruitcake, too. If the person you plan on giving it to knows you aren't giving it as a joke or to be "mean", go for it. Besides, it's the thought that counts, not the gift.

Merry Christmas!

Fruitcake is a horrible gift unless you know for sure that the person you are giving it to really likes fruitcake. Otherwise it is just a really bad gift.

Depends if it is a good or a cheap fruitcake.
I LOVE fruitcake, if it is a good one. I do not know why fruitcake gets such a bad rap, unless there are a lot of bad ones out there.

It has a reputation of not being a well liked gift. How many people do you know eat the stuff? If you know someone that does, then OK, do it. Otherwise, I think the majority don't and they might just chunk it.

i in my view don't sense that a newborn is spoilt in the event that they get alot of delivers at christmas. it particularly is a time for presents. Christmas and birthdays are for delivers. it particularly is the youngster that gets each and everything that they ever ask for at any time of the year and that they do no longer ought to sustain for something themselves or do any style of job to make money( washing up, making beds etc) that are the spoilt ones. My babies get alot for christmas. besides the very undeniable fact that I do have a funds that I choose for on and that all of them get the comparable quantity, and that i DO shop on with it. If one in each and every of them needs an merchandise that's form of the full quantity of that funds then they gets it, yet then purely some small products to make up the money, the place by using fact the greater youthful newborn could have the comparable quantity of money yet in all possibility alot greater delivers for his money as they are greater value-effective. as long as you instruct your babies approximately earning there money in the process the year, by using helping out and conserving there room tidy, and instruct them that they can't allways have what they choose, and that they discover ways to appreciate human beings, and be style to different's, they are going to be purely wonderful.
