I ate alone at restaurants many many times. The reason why people stare at me is because they are wondering why I am eating alone. Most people go to restaurants with someone and when they are talking maybe I am in their line of sight and they end up staring at me trying to figure out why I am eating alone. Especially since I am a young single female. Most females have someone around them. They wonder why is she eating alone? Or maybe because I am Asian and I live in texas and the people here have never seen an asian close-up before in their lives. People do stare and it's very rude. I either get curious stares from whites , hateful stares from hispanics, or weird stares from other asians.

Most people have more important things to worry about than who's eating at the next table, and if that person has a dining companion or not.

There is at least one person staring at you while you eat - your server (she's probably staring at all the other diners in her section too - so it's nothing personal).

But she's got a good reason for staring - she wants to be ready to react if you need her for something and she wants to make sure that you pay your check and don't stiff her!

People sure are staring at you! I couldn't really tell you why they do though. but they don't seem to if it is a bar type restaurant and you don't have a table for 2 with an empty seat.

If you're eating in a strange way, you bet they probably are!!

Most of the time, people are so busy feeding their face though, they don't really notice what the heck you're doing.

Not only that, they could care less.

My husband is in the miltary and is always gone, so I often dine alone. Nevertheless, the answer to your question is yes, people are staring at you

Only if you're not in a city. It's very common in NY. If anything they're staring because they wish they could be that brave.

Yes, yes they are. And they're thinking, "Wow, what a loner, sitting all by himself, he must be a real loser to not have anyone with him."

People will stare at you when you spill that plate of bolognese all down your pants...otherwise, nobody cares. Unless you're at a restraurant called 'Couples'. Then its just weird.

May be once in a while... but not usually. Most people are too self absorbed to notice anything going on beyond themselves....

Yes. They are watching you. Getting ready to steal your food. There isn't another person to watch your food so, WOOSH! You turn your head, it's gone. POOF! Like that.

Peace out! Rock on!! Happy Holidays!!!
