I always cover my mouth because sometimes the movement of the mouth causes a little squirt of saliva to shoot out. I do it to be polite and not so gross! I even find myself covering my mouth while yawning in my car by myself.

i'm in my mid-20s and develop into also taught to cover my mouth after I yawn. I agree that it truly is rude at the same time as human beings do not - my bf doesn't and it drives me insane. i do not care to look down a persons' throat in the time of a gathering or at the same time as ingesting dinner or perhaps with. it truly isn't any longer very appropriate! i imagine human beings are merely no longer too worried with etiquette lately! they say "oh, it is previous-formed" and do not imagine they favor to adhere to those guidelines anymore. perfect etiquette develop into significant to my mothers and fathers at the same time as i develop into turning out to be up and that i imagine that is in effortless words well mannered to others round you to apply perfect etiquette.

It's a way to keep the evil spirits from over taking your human form. So it's less of an etiquette thing and more of a no evil spirits thing.

I don't cover my mouth when I yawn. I also don't cover my mouth when I sneeze, burp, or cough. I'm going through a lack-of-courtesy stage of my life right now.

It prevents the spread of germs and the contagiousness of the yawn. It does hide your teeth for politeness.
