Well, I've been working at a grocery store for 6 months and I'm 17. I've made it pretty clear before that I cannot work 6 day weeks and more than 20 hours a week because I am also still in school. I keep getting 6 day weeks and 25-30 hours a week. I'm tired of it, I've talked and complained to my boss. I'm quitting. But the catch is that I want to quit tomorrow, as in call up and say I'm going to quit, I don't want to work the oh lets see ..REST OF THE 5 DAYS I HAVE SCHEDULED this week because I have reached my breaking point and I'm going to go insane if I work any longer there. I miss my friends, I miss my family, I miss eating dinner with my family. Simple appointments and assignments are out of the question because I'm always working.

First off they are not suppose to work you more than 20 hours a week because you are in school. They should be working with you on your scheduel but obviously if they arent going to then quitting is the best decision. Usually before you quit you are suppose to say so 2 weeks in advanced depending on the store you work for, but since they refuse to work with you then just call in and say "I QUIT!" simple as that. They can't "make" you work or stay since you are a student. So you have nothing to worry about!

If you went into your employment situation with the specific understanding that your work hours could not and would not exceed 20 hours per week, your employer has violated your "contract of employment" and you are entitled to sever it. The longer you continue to accept the excessive hours, the more it appears you are accepting new terms of employment.

If the employer is insisting that you work these additional hours, even though you have objected, then you again have a situation where your terms of contract are being violated and are entitled to give notice.

Take time tonight to actually write out a notice that you are quitting your work and hand it to your boss while telling them that you are giving them your notice. Also tell them that you are quitting have been consistently required to work more than the 20 hours you agreed to and that it appears they have no intention to remedy that situation.

I haven't looked it up, but I believe if you are still in high school and under the age of 18 (age of majority) the employer cannot, by law, have you work more than 20 hours per week. You'll need to check your state's Child Labor Law to see what the rules are that apply to you and your situation.

If your boss has voice mail, call while the store is closed, and leave a message, there you can say everything you want to without being interrupted. He should call back tomorrow, and if he still offers you a job, simply say no, you no longer have the time for it, and you need to focus more on schoolwork. I'm sure he'll understand.

the best thing for you to do is give a weeks notice before you quit if you just quit it doesn't look good on your work history. Never burn bridges that you might have too cross again IF YA KNOW WHAT I MEAN!

"You people suck, I ain't coming in!" Oh wait, you gotta follow that stupid etiquette stuff don't you?

How about something like : I'm sorry but I quit. I just need more time to focus on other aspects of my life right now.
