Where it says "John Doe's IPod" or whatever your's is called, right click it and it should say "eject." After that, your actual Ipod won't have the DO NOT DISCONNECT logo on it anymore and you can safely disconnect the Ipod from the USB cable.

By clicking on the Eject button next to the iPod in the iTunes source list.

I'm not sure about a direct answer to your question, but here's an alternative... It's kind of long so play close attention to each step. (I'll try to be as clear as possible) 1) Open "My Computer" and find folder options. (If you have Vista, it's under "Organize" on the top left (under the back and forward arrows)) It will be in the "Folder and Search Options" tab. 2) Switch from the "General" tab to the "View" tab. 3) You should be able to see a drop down menu that says "Hidden Files and Folders". If it's not dropped down, double click it to make it drop down. 4) Click on "Show hidden files and folders". 5) Now click "Apply", then "Ok". 6) Plug in you iPod. (You should see it pop up in the "My Computer" menu. 7) Double Click on the iPod icon. 8) Find where it says "iPod Control" and double click it. 9) Find where it says "Music" and double click it. 10) You should see a whole bunch of sub-folders that say F00, F01, F02, etc. Inside these sub-folders are all your data. They are specially named with some type of code, but if you just copy all of them into your computer, and then into your library, you should have your music and stuff like that. (I know it says "Music" as the file name, but it holds movies as well) Copying these files into your computer can be tedious, but it is a better alternative than having to start all over. Good luck!
