Booker T Washington- Said that blacks need to earn their place in white society. That they must start at the bottom and work their way up. While doing this they will gain the respect and become viable members to society. He wanted the freed blacks to focus on making economic gains in society. He said this before a mostly southern crowd so he could get funding for an all black college.

W.E.B. Dubois- Hated Washington for setting blacks back further. He thought that blacks should have, and get all equality in American society without working their way from the bottom. That blacks earned the respect through the slavery process.

Ida B Wells- Wanted blacks to get more social freedom in society. That blacks should focus on political problems not economic. This would be to go against Jim Crow laws in the South.

I could spend hours explaining more on the subject, but this is a rough outline.
