Babies don't. The waste products are passed back to the mother through the blood stream in the umbilical cord. As the baby grows, a substance call "meconium" builds up in the baby's intestines. For the first couple days after being born, the baby's bowel movements consist of meconium then turn to regular old poop once the baby starts digesting breastmilk or formula.
Sometimes, especially in babies who are past their due dates, the baby can actually have its first bowel movement inside the womb, this is very dangerous and can cause an infection in the baby's lungs if the baby breaths it in while being born. Dr.'s can tell if meconium is present if there is a green tint to the amniotic fluid when the mom's water breaks. Usually babies who get meconium in their lungs need a course of antibiotics and need monitored for breathing difficulties for a few days in the hospital but in severe cases death can result.

The purpose of a bowel movement is to rid the body of solid waste. Since an unborn baby receives all of its nutrition through its mother's bloodstream (through the umbilical coard) it doesn't have any solid waste to get rid of, so it doesn't have any bowel movements. Sometimes right before a baby is born, during the stress of delivery, the baby might have its first bowel movement while still in the mother, but it is a very loose, black tarry substance called meconium. If your doctor finds this has happened, he/she will try to speed along your delivery so that the baby doesn't suck any of this substance into its lungs.

babies don't have a bowel movement until either just prior to birth, or just after. The substance is called meconium, and if the baby relieves itself prior to birth it can be dangerous as it can clog the baby's lungs when they are still encased in amniotic fluid.

They don't. Their nutrition is obtained through the mother's blood so they have nothing solid in their digestive tract. Their first bowel movement after birth is the first one ever.

They don't. Waste products from the fetus are passed to the mother's bloodstream via the umbilical chord and placenta.

All matter the baby needs goes in through the umbilicus. If we adults only ate EXACTLY what we needed to live like they do we wouldn't ever have BM's either.

They can't - they haven't eaten anything yet - all nutritional needs are supplied through the umbilical cord.....
