Only if you win best answer also, then each thumbs up you got for that answer gives you one point. Otherwise, they're pointless =)

(And no point deductions for thumbs down.)

I know that the more thumbs up you get the more points you get if your answer is picked as the best. For example, if you get 3 thumbs up, you get 13 points instead of 10 if your answered is picked as the best answer. I think that thumbs down will take some of those points away.

You get 1 point per thumbs up for up to 50 points for best answers only. I posted the link to the scoring system below from Y!A

You get 1 point everytime someone "thumb ups you" and nothing happens with thumbs down. You can check by clicking on how many points you have. Or, go to you Q&A and click on that blue question mark next to how many points you have!

You get to rate answers (thumbs up/down) when you become a level two. I think you only get points for thumbs up when you recieve it for an answer that was chosen as best answer.
