Im stuck on choosing if i should get goldfishes or bettafish. I bought 2 betta fish last week they ate each other, one lived but then the other wasnt reactive at all and while i was cleaning the tank it fell in my sink. I want an active fish that doesnt need alot of responsobility and doesnt need all these fancy water heaters or water cleaners. If there are any other fish please let me know THANK YOU

Bettas need a minimum of 2.5 gallons, 5 gallons is better with a heater and a filter. Males should never be kept together or with females except while breeding and females can be kept with other females but they need to be in a group of no less then 3 and in nothing smaller then 10 gallons. They can live around 5 years if properly taken care of.

Fancy goldfish need a minimum of 10 gallons each when babies and 20+ gallons when adults and can grow 8-12 inches. Single tailed goldfish need a minimum of 20 gallons each when babies and a pond when adults and can grow 12-18 inches. Goldfish can live 20+ years if taken care of properly.

If you can't provide them with what they need to thrive, not just survive then you should not own a fish.

A goldfish will not need a heater, but will need a filter. If you do not want the responsibility of a fish, you should not get one. It is a lot of work, and it is sad when beginners do not care for it and it dies because they put in no effort, been there, done that. :P Goldfish would probably be the best choice, but bettas are nicer looking. Goldfish will need at least a 5 gallon tank.

1)never put two male beta fish together(they are siamese fighting fish)
2)goldfish are easy to care for and pretty, but dirty if you don't keep changing the water.YOU MUST USE DROPS FROM THE
PETSHOP TO PUT IN THE WATER SO THE CHLORINE IN THE WATER DOESN'T KILL THEM.they don't need a heater.
3)maybe you should wait until you are more responsible to have
any pet.putting those two fish together, and dropping one down the sink,is cruel! don't you think fish have feelings?read some books before you get any more pets!!!

I don't mean to be rude, but I don't think fish are the pet for you.

All fish require some sort of care, and if you aren't willing to take the time and money to invest in a heater and filter of some sort then you really shouldn't be keeping fish.

If you don't want to hassle with the responsibilities of a tank, try getting hermit crabs or fiddler crabs, or wild shrimp, or giant snails, or frogs, or newts. They are all cool, and don't need as much water tampering as fish, and aren't boring like regular goldfish.

Beta fish are the best type of fish to get. They can live in small amounts of water, no filter or heater required. The only problem is that they are fighting fish and will kill each other if placed in the same tank. Beta's live for a long time and actually hard to kill, so they are very low maintenance. They are really cool fish too, because if you place a mirror next to its tank and it sees itself it will blow up like it is about to fight. Definitely get a Beta fish.
