I have that happen a lot, especially if I'm stressed. The most important thing to do is not to go to bed unless you are about to fall asleep right then. If you try to make yourself go to sleep, it just gets worse. Tylenol PM does help but if it's a real problem, try Lunesta. That really works well but it leaves a wretched taste in your mouth. I usually read in bed and wind up falling asleep that way. if you're reading, it makes you focus on what you're reading instead of having your mind race. Good luck with your problem!

Try talking to your doctor about Ambien. Pop one of those bad boys and you are out with no problems in maybe 30 mins. It's a miracle drug. I can't sleep either and this is the only thing that works. Also depression may cause insomnia, just thought I would mention it.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

Try to calm yourself down at night. Try listening to music or something. Just try to stay off the computer. If that doesn't work, take some medicine or see the doctor.

I have the same problem. Block your clock from view so you cant find an answer to "what time is it". sleeping pills hinder you from waking up early so i dont take them. Try sleepy time tea or some kind of warm drink. for more look at this question I asked on ways to fall asleep

I had this problem for 3 months. You are not going to belive this, you are going to laugh because I did it when someone told me to do it but it help me a lot. Put a container of water under your bed and change it every night. It absorbs the energy. Believe me, do it, its free, it works, I couldnt believe this until I did it. A women told me that when she heard me talking to other person. Do it.
