My son is just one & half months old, his birth weight was 6lb 8oz and at his check up he was just over 7lb. I'm having to feed formula as well as breastmilk as he is never sated with just breastfeeding. Just recently the amount of liquid he is taking has increased, I am breastfeeding on demand and he is also demanding formula at an alarming rate. We went through one 12.9oz can of formula in 2 days!! He is growing fine and seems to be happy & content, there has been no change in his bowel movements so I'm not sure where he's putting it all! Can anyone clarify an average amount or if there is another very hungry baby out there??

hehe, our baby ate that well too.

she also had all her baby teeth (except molars) in by 10 months. some babies just seem born to eat! :)

contrary to what some lactation nazis will tell ya, it is 100% ok to suppliment with formula. you should feel NO GUILT whatsoever for doing so either. do try to keep up with the breast feeding for as long as you can though, as the baby is getting antibodies and such from your milk which will boost it's immune system.

don't worry, they need the energy and your baby seems to be doing fine :)

I have this problem too I thought I was alone :) I finally stopped breastfeeding and the baby eats TONS it is so spendy. I was told to give cereal by my mother however after speaking with the dr's I was told absolutely not until at least 4 months of age and then not to put it in the bottle or it would make him eat more and be fatter! My son is now 5 months and still eats like a pig and is now 20 lbs! I was told as long as baby is healthy keep giving it to them. They will work most of it off right when they learn to walk anyway. I am doing at least 13 cans of formula a month! ..and Im doing baby food too! good luck keep up the good work your baby is just healthy and happy and wants that yummy food mommy :)

All babies are different and he may be demanding formula because he might not be getting enough breastmilk. I don't know for sure but as long as he is fine and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with him, you shouldn't worry. As to where he's putting it...he's only drinking liquids and there really isn't any place for him to put those liquids except for back into his diaper when he urinates. The nutrients are what are helping him grow and gain weight.

you may not be making any milk. get a pump and pump your breasts and see what your producing. you could be dry. my son was only formula fed and he went through a can every two days at that age. and talk to the doctor
