Water discharged from manufacturing plants can take many forms. From machinery involving hot temperatures, both steam and hot water can result. Waste water can also result from chemical and refinery processes that may be hot because of heat related processing activities.

In nuclear power plants, water is critical for cooling though I am not familiar with discharge here.

Probably geothermal geysers or some source of thermal pollution.
