I just started birth control pills (Tricyclen Lo) for the first time. I took the first one on the first day that my period started like I was advised to do. I have been taking them for thirteen days now, and am STILL on my period. I'm not sure what to do, or how normal this is. (Plus my boyfriend is quite frustrated because I refuse to have sex while I'm on my period.) Is this normal and is it going to end soon?!

i think its your period and then went through breaktrough bleeding from the pill.

>>Breakthrough bleeding is bleeding while taking the active pills of oral contraceptives, or other hormonal contraceptives. The bleeding is usually light, often referred to as "spotting," though a few women may experience heavier bleeding. Breakthrough bleeding is most common when a woman first begins taking oral contraceptives, or changes from one particular oral contraceptive to another, though it is possible for breakthrough bleeding to happen at any time.

Many women find that the breakthrough bleeding ceases after one or two cycles. Breakthrough bleeding that does not resolve on its own is a common reason for women to switch to different Pill formulations, or to switch to a non-hormonal method of birth control.

It could be that your body is adjusting and you need about 3 months before things start to get normal (Remember that some times you need to be on them for 3 months before they work). Also, some times women need higher levels of hormones in their pills and have to switch. Talk to your doctor for sure so he can evaluate the type of pills you are on and your medical history.

See your doctor, as there are other pills you can take. Some react differently in different women. I know that certain one's can make your period last 3 or more weeks.

Get it checked out as soon as possible.
