You don't have that right anymore than someone would have the right if they were Muslim or Jewish (for example) to tell you not to eat pork or to cook all of your foods the Kosher way. She wasn't buying cigarettes with the stamps. The key word is "younger". Young people don't have the knowledge or experience to accept and do what is best nutritionally for their bodies. At least she was buying food and not selling her benefits. Perhaps she had already purchased the fruits and veggies? As a tax payer, I expect them to buy FOOD. It is up to her to learn how to budget it.

Most people, regardless of whether they use EBT cards ("food stamps" are nonexistant in Connecticut and were replaced by a card) will buy that sort of food. If she wants to clog her arteries, that's up to her. As for me, it's the 1300 calorie low-fat diet until further notice....
But I also have the luxury to decide between the more expensive light specialty foods and the cheaper, fat laden ones. She may not, and you have to remember that. My suggestion to you--go to Wikipedia and look up the word "gadugi."

I cannot force anyone to buy nutritious food with their food stamps. However, I do think that food stamps should be used for the healthy benefit of a person. I also think that people who apply for food stamps should be evaluated.

Well, with the WIC (for pregnant women & their children) program, people get very specific lists of food they can buy (milk, juice, tunafish, etc.)...for the rest, I think that it's really better to leave it up to the person what they can buy! some people will waste their money, but I don't think the state should have to be everyone's dietician

Eliminate food stamps and give them beans and rice. If they want better, they can work for it like I do.

No. It is everyone's right to eat what they want to. If you were in a position to rely on them, would you stop eating what you like?
