I take marketing and we were given this problem to answer:

a man dies and leaves $10,000,000.oo to his 1 widow, 4 sons and 5 daughters. The daughters get an equal amount each. The 4 sons get 2 times as much as each daughter. The 1 widow gets 3 times as much as the sons. How much money does the widow get?

x=amount each daughter gets= 5x for 5 daughters
2x = amount each son gets = 8x for 4 sons
Widow gets 3 times sons' portion = 24x
24x+8x +5x = 10,000,000
37x =10000000
x= $270,270.27
24x = 24*$270,270.27 = $6,486,486,40 = widow's portion
