I am going to answer this question assuming you have not arranged a formal meeting with your boss. If that is the case, schedule a meeting with him/her, in which you let him know what you are going through and what his/her expectations on the job are.

Remember to prepare beforehand.
Do not enter your boss' office without having prepared the points you want to discuss with him/her.
Be direct about the issue you would like to discuss, do not beat around the bush.
Tell him/her about your goals in the long term at the company and what your career path expectations are.
If he/she does not give you a straight answer, ignores your feedback and/or does not follow up on any agreement that may be arrived at, turn to his/her boss or consider transferring to another department, if possible. If not, then update your resume and start sending it to prospective employers.

I hope this helps a little.

You need to clearly set and agree on expectations with your boss. This is a good time for that with the new year coming. Sit down with your boss and show him in writing; this is what I understand as my job responsibilities.

Make sure to use the S.M.A.R.T format. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time bound. ex: If you were a check processor, your responsibility/goal would read, I am responsible for processing 10 checks daily.

This makes it hard for anyone to question if you are doing your job well. If your boss still won't listen, you could try going above him, but it may be easier to look for a new opportunity. Hope this helps! Good luck!

it sucks when you don't feel appreciated at work, especially when you work hard. If you've already talked to your boss about this & he/she never listens, then it's time you bring it up to his/her boss or to Human Resources. If not, then the next meeting you attend, you should bring it up when they ask if you have any questions or concerns. I'm sure your fellow co-workers feel the same way you do. When the company sees employees unhappy, sometimes they give rewards, sometimes they don't. It depends on how unhappy everyone is & how many. Just remember that employees are the ones to make work place better, if you don't do anything about it, nothing will happen. Go to the top if you have to.

First the bad:

It depends on your age. If you are like fifty or sixty, don't ever, ever talk back or complain. Its a fact of life you will never get another job at your age. Your boss will never, ever think you are "good enough".

The good:

If you are a woman, a minority, or harassed, sue the heck out of them. You will never have to work again. Maybe then they will listen.

MAKE sure you havE a baCKup plan!!! Also find out if your other coworkers feel the same way. Is he only treaing you like this?? Maybe he has high expectations for you and wants to motivate you. And if he does treat everyone else like this then you know he is the problem and not you and if you feel you need to leave then do that and good luck!

Have you ever had a job with similar responsibilities? I had someone working for me once who was a total loser and couldn't face up to that fact. Maybe they were brought up without any reality checks, I don't know.

Maybe this is just not the right job for you.

Quit worrying about appreciation and just bring home the money.
Stop doing your best you will still get paid the same.

When you get to that point, you need to re-evaluate your options. Its time to update your resume and look for something else. If its getting to the point you wake and are saying DAMN!! I got to go to this m**** job...its time to go.
