Recycle something! Take a couple old cd's that no longer play, glue 2 labels sides together and paint or use permanent markers to draw a picture, or write message (or do both, one on each side), tie a ribbon (I'm sure your mom has some) through the holes and you got a specail handmade ornament your mother will treasure forever. You could also use the cd's in mant other ways. Decorate an old piece of furniture no body cares about by gluing cd's all over it and you can decorate further or leave as is, the cd's with reflect light all over the room and it'll jazz up an otherwise unwanted item and it'll be seen all year as well as used. Heres another idea since I don't your mother and what she'd like, you can check out http://www.diynetwork.com they have many holiday ideas and you wont have to put out. Another website is http://www.hgtv.com. I think you should be able to find something on one of those websites that you will enjoy making and your mother will love. Hope this helps.

A picture or I gave my Mom a coupon for anything she asks when I had no cash. A hug and "I love you" would also be good. Or the dollar store has some cool stuff. Make her something for the kitchen like a pot holder or something to put her spoons and spatulas in. A chair cushion.

Make her a dvd of home videos and slides of pics. Put a little work and creativity into it and she'll love it. Probably wouldn't hurt to go ahead and make a macaroni necklace too.

Give her a day off. Do all of her chores (laundry, cleaning, cooking, errands) and let her do the things she wants to do for herself. I would take that over a store-bought gift any day!
