Watch out SPOILER!

Is L's death a VERY important part of the series?
I just found out and read book 1 today so I was wondering if I should bother with the others.

To a degree it is. He is the main character. But the most important part of the series is watching how Light gradually realizes his potential, becomes power-crazed, and evades L. In short it is a thriller, and the important part of the plot is watcghing how Light and L try to outwit eachother. So while it's important, you may still want to read the other volumes.

I havent read or watch the Deathnote manga because i would like finish bleach and naruto first. Besides death note is still new in the market so it's good to wait until there are more episodes in the market. I prefer to watch anime more than reading manga because in manga u cant tell their expression

Oh, Death Note is good. A bit... evil but good. Light tries to achieve world domination, a somewhat simple idea that requires elaborate plans.

Read it anyway. The whole appeal is about the two trying to outwit each other at every step.
