it means different things to different people. overhauled usually means the internal wear parts of a unit are replaced. (rings, bearings gaskets, valve reface) in the engine, and bearings, seals, clutches in the trans, and seals, bearings in the rear differential if rwd. sometimes the term rebuilt is used. again, vague terms sometimes to give the perception of great or new condition. look at a unit on the outside, if it looks clean and new, chances are major work just been done. if all oily and dirty, chances are not.

Minor repairs as needed with minimal parts replaced only a rebuild is much more comprehensive and includes machining but re manufactured means that it has been brought up to like new standards

Should mean it was pulled apart and any parts renewed as necessary and all wearing parts such as bearings, clutch assemblies, bands, synchros, Universal/CV joints or whatever have been replaced. In my experience that is rarely the truth.

Generally, in the context of machinery, it means to disassemble, clean, examine/evaluate, identify deficient parts and components, replace them, and reassemble.
