Yes, it's wonderful.
Every parent should take their children once a year to give them an appreciation of our awesome universe that cannot be gotten out of just reading books. It opens their minds and expands their entire sense of being.

Nope, never even heard of it (perhaps you meant the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, that also has a major planetarium by a name I forget because no one ever uses it?).

I have, however, been to many planetariums around the US (mostly along the east coast), and I operate a small planetarium at the college where I teach. I highly recommend going to a planetarium show anywhere, and especially at a large facility like the one they have in LA. Most of the time they are awesome - truly awe-inspiring and educational to boot! Of course, I'm a bit biased, loving astronomy as I do.

I am sure you mean the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. Yes, it is a GREAT place. I especially remember a Christmas Star program I saw there as a teenager.
