20 GB will be comfortable for a while, but if you end up putting in a lot of photos (you know how they accumulate) or installing more programs (which may well happen if you're getting broadband internet), it'll become very cramped. In fact, I'm not entirely sure you can even buy a laptop with that little space anymore. My PowerBook came with an 80 GB hard drive, and it was plenty roomy enough for most of what I needed to do, if you don't count the larger games and stuff.
Basically, if you're not looking to do anything really intensive with your computer, then whatever it comes with is quite likely to be enough for you.

For this day and age I would go for a 100 or 200 GB Hard drive that way you can hold an extensive amount of photos, music files, video files (if you plan on upgrading later to the video ipod) and if you choose later a few games. 20 gig fills up fast if you have alot of music and photos. An average MP3 is 4-5 mb per song. At Best Buy you can get a Western Digital 150 GB hard drive for around 150.00

Oh no...I'd get as many as you could probably at least...40 if not 60. The more space the better. You only SAY you want to do those things on your laptop but you never know what you'll end up doing on it.
Of course you an always get a hard drive that is outside your computer and save all the stuff you can't fit on your laptop on it. They work a lot like a Flash/Jump Drive if you've used one of them.

20 Gb might be enough, but honestly you will probably wonder why you didn't take something bigger in a few months.
You need something like 2-3Gb for Windows and random applications. Then you have to consider your music...that goes up VERY VERY fast!! And depending of the number of pictures you want to be able to store...I would at least aim at a 40Gb if I were you.

I don't think that 20 GB is enough. You have to remember that the operating system (Windows version whatever, Mac OSX, etc.) take up a good portion of that 20GB. I honestly think that these days, 40GB is the bare minimum. That will be enough for digital photos, mp3's, etc.

after all of the programs are installed at the factory, the writen about 1.5-2gb of the hard drive space is taken up. about 100gb is the avg for a 21st century laptop. unless you ahve a huge amnt of videos, pictures or months worth of music, that should be all you need.

A standard Media laptop starts at 80gb with 1gig of memory and a healthy CPU. 20gb hdd is pretty small. Try to set your sites a little higher. "PEACE"

80 GB is the least you should have. 100 or more is better.
