Have you ever felt like asking this question to someone you just met? It's a very rare feeling you only get when you feel like you've met the person before. You're really comfortable with them and you feel like you've known them forever, but you can't seem to put your finger on it. It's kind of eerie in a way.

Four years ago, when I met my friend, I asked him, "Why do I feel like I've met you before?" and he said, "I know! I felt the exact same way." We tried retracing our pasts, but it turns out we never met before.

Now that I'm in college, I met this girl who lives in my dorm and she's from another state, but we both feel like we've met each other before too.

Why does this phenomenon occur?

There is a psychological reaction called a "Halo Effect". This is when someone that you meet strongly resembles, or acts like, someone that you know. You've been lucky in that these people are like friends that you care for. This same effect can happen when they resemble someone that you don't care for. At that point for no apparent reason, you can dislike an individual.
