you praise the lord people....have you ever heard of separation of church and state? when we finally get people who understand this concept in office the only place you can shout you ignorant praises is in your churches.
No one is asking for a church-recognized union, but rather a union recognized by government. so that we too can have insurance benefits, tax benefits, easier adoption benefits, etc. oh yea and so that after being with my partner for 50 years and my whole damned family is dead and gone that my partner may accompany me in the hospital as i lay on my death bed because she is now consideredmy family.

There is ONLY one state that allows legal gay MARRIAGE, anything else is NOT the same. Civil Unions and Domestic partnerships are simply poor substitutes.
The problem with same sex marriages is that people confuse Religious marriage with Legal marriage. They also confuse Civil Unions and Domestic Partnerships with Full on Marriage.
Yes, these unions should, by LAW be called Marriage! The word is NOT the sole domain of any religion. Just look it up in the dictionary, the word itself has SEVERAL meanings, but the one we're most focused on is LEGAL Marriage which is a committed, physical, emotional and financial union between two concenting adult human beings.
No, allowing same sex marriage will not be followed by some "slippery slope" falicy. It won't lead to incest, beastiality or pedophilia.
These and many other arguments are EXACTLY the same arguments that were used against inter-racial marriages as well.
What is so bothersome is back then there were actually rational men seated in the Supreme Court who saw past these falicious arguments to reality and common sence.
Whatever happened to those kinds of people? That's what I want to know!

Massachusetts only. The states of Vermont, Connecticut, and New Jersey do not have same sex marriage, but do have civil unions which have similar but not identical rights of marriage. California has a domestic partnership law that provides most (but not all) spousal benefits to unmarried couples. Hawaii, Maine, and the District of Columbia have laws that provide partial benefits to unmarried couples.
In 1996 the so-called Defense of Marriage Act was enacted, and it prevents the federal government from conferring any rights to same sex couples as well as allowing other states to disregard the full faith and credit clause of the United States Constitution in regards to marriages performed in other states.

So far, Massachusetts allows gay marriage proper. We have civil unions here in Connecticut, and New Jersey & Vermont have them as well.
Those of you who think the Bible should be the law of the land can stay where you are. Preferably very far from me. Just because you fear reality and change doesn't mean others do, so don't drag me down into your hole.

Church is seperate from state. Correct? So I don't know why it isn't legal everywhere...
How does the marriage of two homosexuals effect the sanction of a heterosexual marriage?
Grow up, I'm pretty sure we can all pretend to be cival adults here.
If you don't like gay people why do constantly check this section?
it doesn't make sense.

Massachusetts and California. Unfortunately, Bush hasn't got ahold of these yet. I think eventually there will be none allowed. If you allow gay marriage, then people will be marrying their relatives and their pets and stuff next.
