Do you notice any effects on system performance besides when you're shutting down, like if your computer is running unusually slow then I would have to say a virus is causing your computer to hang on shutdown. Depending on your computer specs and processes running that need to be shut down this will all effect on how long it takes to shut down your computer, it could be that your computer is running a lot of processes that it has to shut down and cannot do it very quickly. If you have a virus scanner run it (in safe mode preferably) and see if it comes up anything. My dad had the same problem and it ended up being spysweeper (ironically) that was making his computer hang on shutdown b/c it took up a lot of system resources and it took a while to shut it down. But from what you've provided it sounds like you have a virus causing your computer to hang on shutdown (some viruses hide themselves as processes that take a lot of time to shutdown before the computer will turn itself off). Hope that helps.

You should let it run until it finishes.
It is not stuck. It is processing something.
Sometimes this can take 10 or 15 minutes.
