I'm not sure about this, but I remember reading on some site that JKR declared Harry is not the heir of Gryffindor.
The fact that he managed to pull the sword out of the hat doesn't prove anything though. Dumbledore told him that only a true Gryffindor could have controlled that sword because Harry had doubts about the House he truly belongs in and Dumbledore wanted to comfort him in a way. But I'm sure he didn't mean Harry is the heir of Gryffindor. You can be a true Gryffindor without being related to Godric Gryffindor himself.

I think what Dumbledore actually meant was that anyone made a true Gryffindor could have pulled the sword from the hat. Jo has never made many hints that Harry is the heir of Gryffindor. I think something that monumental would have been at least hinted at more times than one. However, you never really know. Jo loves to throw us off. I'm pretty sure that if Ron had made it into the Chamber instead of Harry that he would have been able to pull the sword from the Sorting Hat. Course, we'd never know if he would actually have shown the loyalty to Dumbledore that Harry demonstrated to call Fawkes to him. So many questions and so little time for answers.
Many fanfiction writers make their stories around this premise.

Possible... I would think that if Harry were the heir of Gryffindor, then the sorting hat wouldn't have even considered him for Slytherin, though. I don't think that the transference of powers from Voldy to Harry would've been enough to consider Harry for Slytherin if he WERE the true Gryffindor heir. (BUT JKR keeps hinting around that we're going to be revealed a secret about Aunt Petunia in book 7...I suppose anything's possible....but if that's the case, I really don't see Jo being able to stop at 7 books, which she's already said that this is it.)

It could be a possibility... Only time will tell. I am leaning more towards him just being meant for Griffindor.
Yes Harry exhibits qualities of Slytherin, but all three of them, (Harry, Ron, and Hermione), could have been in different houses Sly, Huff, Raven... But instead, they all went to Griff.
In the fifth book Dumbledore, announces that all four houses have to unite if they are going to pull through. This may be the reason the three of them made it into Griff... To help the four houses have some common ground that they can relate to each other, and work as a team.

Of course I don't know the answer to that, but I don't believe that he is an heir to Gryffindor. If so, then wouldn't he have heard that one of his parents had been an heir before him, and then he would have figured out that he was also? As I said before, I don't know, but I highly doubt it. Harry is too much of a "star" anyway to also be included as being an heir. He was the boy who lived, he was the youngest seeker, he fought Voldemort over and over, he won the Triwizard Tournament, ect.. So, if JK gave Harry the title as "heir," that would seem too coincedental, and a little fake, since he is already known for so many things.

harry, by all means can turn into a slytherin whenever he wants, and he will make a good slytherin.
but by showing his strong will not to enter slytherin, he manage going to gryffindor.and i bet he can be the best gryffindor.
maybe his history(being targeted by lord voldemort etc) helped him being recognized into being a true gryffindor.
