As paradoxical as it sounds: the more affluent a country, or society is, the higher the incident of alleged emotional problems will be seen. Notice I said "alleged." We in America place such a high priority on being comfortable and avoiding pain, both physical and emotional, and are also so much more in tune with our feelings than are people in less affluent societies. Thus: our kids complain of, and are treated for, emotional problems simply because they can be! I can give you an example of this "affluence" dynamic I'm talking about. Any psychologist or psychiatrist will tell you that by and large, their clients are in the upper-middle to middle class in the socio-economic stratum. This is not becasue there is more mental illness among the well-heeled, it just means they have the opportunity and ability to think about themselves and to seek and find help with their perceived issues.

America and especially the US of A have the most strict legal system in the world. Prisons are overflowing and new ones are build all the time. No wonder kids have more legal problems. In Europe things are much better because young people are given a second chance.

It seems that american kids grow up in a very hostile enviroment where people are obsessed with being somebody, either popular or cool, and in doing so they pick on others and make them out to be nerds or weaklings. America is the only country where this goes on to such an extent, so they carry a chip on their shoulders like Adam Sandler. this is why they are so obsessed with "celebrity", because it is the opportunity to be the person they never could at school. There might be a lot of wealth in America but it is in the hands of a very small minority.

Kids in America are more exposed to everything, via the media, magazines, etc. They are also exposed to priviledges that other countries don't abide. Family values are going down the toilet in a lot of American's families...I feel sorry for kids growing up now, they have too many options that lead to depression and/or legal problems.

They got too much contact with modern day technology, and lose focus on more important matters in life.
For other countries, they have a different law, the legal side can't be clearly explained, to educate human rights on small kids is also too harsh.
For emotional problems, it is determined by their perception on values of life, their values might be too attached to material ones, though there are worse countries.

Well, in America, there are more issues with divorce, child abuse, i mean, that sort of bad stuff which makes a child really sad... but it's the same everywhere around the world, because no matter where u go, and no matter what race the person is, kids will be kids.

Kids have no moral guidelines to help them focus on what is right. If you take away competition in life, and tell kids they pass in school, even when they can't read or write, how are you preparing them to live a life in the real world? There is a right way and a wrong way to live. It MUST be taught at an early age, or chaos will reign!

There are so many reasons to answer this, I cant even pinpoint one that will do your answer justice. Some can say environment, some can say lack of parental guidance, some can say lack of aspirations, desire, and goals.
I am sure other countries have their issues with their youth as well.
